The LA Geo-Institute Chapter of ASCE is pleased to announce our intent to award travel scholarships for ASCE student chapter teams who will compete in the 2017 National G-I Geo-wall Competition to be held at the Geotechnical Frontiers, March 11-14, 2017 in Orlando, FL. The LA Geo-Institute Chapter of ASCE is pleased to announce our intent to award two students with scholarships for the Fall of 2016 school year. The scholarships are directed to undergraduate seniors planning to enroll in a graduate-level geotechnical program in Fall 2017 and continuing graduate students. The scholarships are intended to encourage entry of accomplished students into the geotechnical profession. The selected individuals will have demonstrated a strong growth potential in geotechnical engineering as well as outstanding achievements in their school(s) and community. UPDATED: There are several upcoming events being offered by our partner organizations:

  • On Friday, February 24, 2017, the ASCE OC GI will be hosting a half-day continuing education seminar that will focus on sustainability in geotechnical practice. The lead presenter for the seminar, which will be held at Irvine City Hall, will be Mr. Jeff Keaton (AMEC-Foster Wheeler). Please be on the look-out in coming weeks for a flyer with more event details.
  • On Wednesday and Thursday, March 29 and 30, 2017, the ASCE SD GI, UCSD, and SD EERI will be co-hosting the 2nd Workshop on Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering. The workshop topic will be “Dealing with the Consequences of Liquefaction,” and will feature a lifetime achievement tribute hosted by Professor I.M. Idriss for Professor Kenji Ishihara’s contributions to the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering.   • On March 12-15, 2017, Geotechnical Frontiers 2017 will take place in Orlando, Florida. Co-organized by Geo-Institute of ASCE and IFAI’s Geosynthetic Materials Association, it is the third edition of this popular conference combining the biannual Geosynthetics and annual Geo-Congress events.
