Topic: Wilshire Grand High-Rise Development In Los Angeles
Presented by: Dr. Martin Hudson, Ph.D., P.E., G.E.

The Wilshire Grand Development in downtown Los Angeles will include, at 1,100 feet tall, the tallest building on the west coast. The basement excavation is up to 100 feet deep and presented some very interesting challenges. Dr. Hudson, Principal Engineer for AMEC, will describe the various geotechnical, seismic, and environmental challenges encountered in the project.

Geo-Institute Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers in collaboration with College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton and International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR) are organizing the 12th International Symposium on Geo-Disaster Reduction in Fullerton, California, USA on September 5th and 6th, 2014.

The conference organizers invite you to submit an abstract by the extended deadline on June 22nd, 2014 to the conference website. Abstracts are limited to 300 words and require a clear description of your research work, results and significance. You will be asked to provide your personal information as your name, title, affiliation and contact information.

College of Engineering and Computer Science at California State University, Fullerton in collaboration with Geo-Institute Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers are going to organize the 12th International Symposium on Geo-Disaster Reduction in Fullerton, California, USA on September 5th and 6th, 2014. This series of international symposiums has been an instrumental forum for the advancement of geo-disaster reduction. Geoscientists and engineers from the world have contributed and benefited significantly during these events in the past. The forthcoming event is going to be another building block to enhance the geotechnical engineering knowledge and to further understand geo-disaster reduction. All geoscientists and engineers working in the field of geo-disasters are kindly requested to submit their pre-registration form/s together with their details within the stated deadline. Your kind cooperation in this regard will greatly help the organizers plan and hold this important event successfully.

American Society of Civil Engineering Los Angeles Geo-Institute Chapter Scholarship 2014

The Los Angeles Geo-Institute chapter of ASCE is pleased to offer two scholarships directed to undergraduate seniors planning to enroll in a graduate-level geotechnical program in Fall 2014 and continuing graduate students. The scholarships are intended to recognize past achievement and career growth potential of students interested in pursuing a career in geotechnical engineering.
